Best Coldplay Albums Of All Time
Coldplay have released 9 studio albums which we have ranked from the rest to the best. Feel free to let us know in the comments whether you feel we have them in the correct order.
9. A Head Full of Dreams (2015)
The tour that followed the release of this album was a huge success, as it was the 3rd highest grossing concert tour of all time. The album however, doesn’t quite cut it for us, it lacks any memorable tracks with the exception of “Up & Up” and “Everglow” and isn’t as good as some of their earlier offerings.
8. Music Of The Spheres (2021)
This is Coldplay’s attempt at a concept album, set as it is in a far off, distant solar system. The album makes the point that as humans, we’re all connected, but the pop tunes just don’t do the album any justice. It’s very similar to “A Head Full Of Dreams” only based in another galaxy.
7. Ghost Stories (2014)
A great album for someone whose relationship has just broken up, as had Chris Martin when this album was produced. He and his wife Gwyneth Paltrow were going through a harrowing divorce during this period and the tracks on this album reflect the feel of that time in their lives.
6. X&Y (2005)
Apart from the tracks “Talk” and “Fix You” there’s nothing spectacularly memorable about this album. That’s not to say it’s bad, just not too memorable. This is a classic example of the third album slump that many bands experience.
5. Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008)
Definitely one for the fans, but not good enough for pole position in our opinion. Probably their most unique album as it loosely narrates the story of the French Revolution. Two tracks really stand out which are “Viva la Vida” and “Lost”
4. Mylo Xyloto (2011)
There are many stand out tracks on this album which is the reason we’ve ranked it at number 4. “Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall” and “Paradise” are the top two tracks but the whole album is worth a listen.
3. Everyday Life (2019)
Everyday Life is a double album which covers subjects as diverse as Police brutality, climate change, love, racism, war, friendship, faith and gun control. In many ways Everyday life could be considered as an experimental album but somehow, it works.
2. Parachutes (2000)
Their debut album which quickly went to number one on the UK charts and went platinum a massive 8 times! Many of the tracks of this album have become fan favourites including “Trouble”, “shiver” and “Yellow”. This album set the bar for what was to come.
1. A Rush Of Blood To The Head (2002)
Following their success with “Parachutes”, Coldplay tightened their sound to produce this absolute classic album. This is the album that includes “Warning Sign”, Clocks” and “The Scientist” and is the album that made Coldplay one of the biggest bands ever.
