A D A
You didn't know I wasn't free, when you fell in love with me
                          E7 A
And with all your young heart you learned to care
                                                  D E7
It brought you shame and disgrace the world has tumbled in your place
          A E7 A
For they call our love a back street affair

A D A
They say you wrecked my home, I'm a husband that's gone wrong
                      E7 A
They don't know the sorrow that we have to bear
                                       D E7
For the one that I'm tied to was the first to prove untrue
          A E7 A
Yet they call our love a back street affair

D G D
Sweetheart I always knew, when I fell in love with you
                    A7 D
The heartaches that we would have to bear
                                    G A7
I knew a call gets around and that all over town
            D A7 D
They would call our love a back street affair

D G D
They say I wrecked your life and brought sorrow to your wife
                            A7 D
That I was just a girl who didn't seem to care
                               G A7
But if they only knew how she slips around on you
               D A7 D
They wouldn't call our love a back street affair

E A E
When the mist rolls away, we'll be free to love some day
                        B7 E
And find happiness that we were made to share
                                      A B7
We'll climb a mountain high and the world will hear us cry
          E B7 E
That our love is not a back street affair
